Victorian Bathroom Restoration (c.1899 Home)
This mosaic tile restoration job used motifs found in stained glass throughout the home and nearby homes. The home, featuring Aesthetic movement decor throughout many rooms, had a bathtub that simply could not be removed, due to accessibility issues near the row home. For this reason, the mosaics were made a featured element of the room, masking the 1970's origin of the tub. The matte tiles were special ordered from the Mosiac Tile Company of Rockville MD. Design solely by Urban Revivals.

Job at start (forward view). Walls were taken down to the framing, re-insulated, with moisture barriers. The challenge in this job was to assure that the window was never damaged. There was also significant wood rot in the window sill area that needed to be removed, and patched with epoxy compounds. The fact is, it is not really appropriate to have a window at all in this area, but it is an architecturally significant feature. Use of the home demands a bath on each floor.

Mosaic tile installation demands that a detailed design be in front of the installer at all times. Mistakes are not well tolerated in this job!
