Historic Restoration Techniques
Urban Revivals has a long history of repairing and restoring numerous details associated with 1885-1925 homes, such as fixing encaustic tiles, gilding, fireplace mantel repair, newel post restoration, restoration of plaster and architectural ornament, stenciling, floor inlays, door refinishing and restoration of patina, mosaic tile and floor tile repair, and faux finishes for use in historic homes.
Art tiles and Victorian fireplace mantels make for a spectacular centerpiece for any room. A Rumford firebox, tiled by Urban Revivals, in the downtown DC area, is shown.
Appliques and other objects d'art can be integrated into your walls and doors, to enhance a period decor. A griffin is shown here, terminating a portion of chair rail molding.
We replicate gingerbread molding found in Victorian homes. We recreate old patterns, cut them with a scroll saw, and route edges as needed, to replace missing moldings.

Woodgraining, a faux finish technique, is a perfect way to disguise wood in your home that may be of poor quality or so excessively painted or varnished, that it is unattractive.
